Pursuit of the Whole
New York: New Directions, 1953. First printing.
Notable for the graphic jacket, designed by a young Andy Warhol, this is a very good copy of Frederick Rolfe's (Baron Corvo) extraordinary fantasy about a love affair in Venice.
Containing some of his best descriptions of decadent life in that city, he conjures a fantasy lover, half girl, half boy, who comes to the rescue of the semi-autobiographical Nicholas Crabbe.
Introduced by A. J. A. Symons, who wrote Corvo's biography and by W. H. Auden, who analyses Corvo's extraordinary power.
Book is fine, in slightly-worn jacket.
