First Friends - Dora Carrington
London: Viking Press, 1999.
First published in 1979 by the Fleece Press, this is a re-issue of the correspondence between the artists Dora Carrington and her friends Paul and John Nash and Christine Kuhlenthal.
With many paintings and cartoons from their letters reproduced, it charts the friends' meeting at The Slade art school and subsequent wrestling with the artistic and social upheavals of the First World War and the 1920s.
The quality of all their work, with its links to the Bloomsbury circle, is very striking.
With a previous owner's dedication, else fine. Hardcover.
