Drawings by Hilary Knight. New York: Simon & Schuster, 1955. First edition, second printing without corrections.
The unusually well-preserved jacket has a small chip to back corner, otherwise very good. Inside of book is in good shape, with small owner dedication.
This is a fascinating version of ELOISE, because, like the first printing, it has a different text in several places to the later version some of us know by heart.
On the cover back flap, 'Brooklyn Dodgers' instead of 'New York Jets'. Inside on p.33, 'This is what I hate...Peter Rabbit', later removed. On p.41, 'I go to the powder room as often as I can...you just step on it', later removed. On p.50, 'My mother knows Lily Dache', later changed to Coco Chanel. On p.51, 'Here's what I like...Grass', later changed to 'Dandelions'(!)
Excellent early copy, in very good, clipped dust-jacket. Hardcover. SOLD
