Flash and Filagree
New York: Coward-McCann, 1958.
First edition, second issue DJ.
This looks like a first edition, (the copyright page has only 1958), but the dust-jacket mentions Southern's authorship of the screenplay for Dr. Strangelove, which was released in 1964 and the jacket price is $5.00, instead of $3.50.
So, a second issue, but in good condition, with a touch of dirt to jacket spine and edges.
Southern's strange satire on the false values of Beverley Hills centres around the disasterous friendship between a fashionable skin doctor and one of his patients, who quickly leads him astray.
There is something about the book's tone that makes every incident oddly hilarious and not quite real.
Hardcover, with small literary agent's book-plate.
